Fishermen here, call the sea ‘Kadalamma’ (Mother Sea). In India’s southernmost state, Kerala— there is a large number of fishermen that make a living and feed their families from the sea. Sadly, climate change, overfishing and plastic pollution have drastically decreased their catches. However, progress have been made and involving fishing communities in the fight against ocean pollution has been an eye-opener.
